The MSM is really showing it's chops on the coverage of this that I HAVE found as well. Super informative and completely honest about the history of the gesture and the relative prevalence of it's use in our society.

Miley Cyrus is in hot water with some activist groups who are claiming that a recent photo of the teen star is racially insensitive and degrading.

...Claiming? They aren't claiming. This is a racist gesture, and it's offensive. What's to claim about that? Oh but that's just Fox news right? Surely more liberal outfits would do better? How about our very own Nashville Scene. Err.. wait.. what was that again?

First, Miley Cyrus was photographed looking all freshly romped in Vanity Fair. At least now she's acting a little more her 16 years by pulling back the corners of her eyes, in this latest photo that's causing an Internet ruckus.

Still, these are teenagers with underdeveloped brains, and we know at least one of them is from the don't-see-a-whole-lot-of-other-kinds-of-people-growing-up-in-Franklin part of the country. It doesn't excuse juvenile stupidity, but I don't think that makes it intentionally racist. Thoughts?

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize that she grew up in a Privileged conservative suburb that was a prime target of white flight. That makes it ALL BETTER. And you're right, Kids will be kids, you know. It's not like it actuallyhurts anybody. Intentional or not, this is still racism, and it still matters. It's not like they are asking for her to be tarred and feathered, they just wanted an apology.
